These are "Cascadias Indian Summer" petunias and they really are that color. All those colors. I couldn't resist a couple of plants when we went to the awesome garden center to get wood chips.

I also got a hanging basket of parrot's beak lotus vine, which I love. It's hard to keep up with its voracious need for water, and if you let it get dry just once, BAM, all the foliage turns yellow, but I'm doing okay so far.

The front garden now. It's not exciting, but it looks SO MUCH BETTER than when it was knee-high weeds and a jungle of spider plants. When I decided to clear it out a few weeks ago, I discovered that half the garden was thick, slippery mud; the hose was leaking, and probably had been for quite some time. No wonder the weeds were going nuts.

I wish I had a proper "before" picture, but at least this is evidence that wood chips > no wood chips. (To be honest, I didn't think we'd really manage to clear it out entirely, and it started out so ugly it would have been embarrassing to photograph it.) Also, we took down the broken trellis that has been detached from the wall for years and was supported by the tree, rather than the other way around.

So that's it for gardening right now. At least I don't have to think "Ugh, I should do something about that" every morning as I leave the house now. If I make it back to the awesome garden center sometime, I might end up with more weird petunias, because they have a great selection of weird petunias. (I totally want this one called Kermit Piggy, which is pink and green. Green!) Unfortunately, between the southeast exposure and the rapidly growing TREE out front, I've got part shade at best, and so nothing I like grows well for an extended period.

I love the flower colors you chose! I'll have to look for those Kermit Piggy petunias at my favorite nursery once the weather is reliable enough for me to put annuals out on the front porch; the pink and yellow green are adorable.

Also, good for you for getting that garden cleared out! Anytime you want to do some more weeding, I'm only a five-hour plane trip away.
