The first night we were camping, we saw the crescent moon and Venus together.

I tried taking a picture with flash, and wasn't sure how well it turned out. Not bad, I think. This was the best detail I could get.

I tried taking a shot without the flash, but the longer exposure blurred a lot. I then tried steadying the camera on an impromptu tripod (also known as 'a flashlight and a twig') but the longer exposure rid the moon of any pesky detail and I couldn't completely eliminate the blur. Still, it doesn't look bad.

I like California squirrels, though they're not like Wisconsin squirrels. All the squirrels here have skinny tails and strange silvery feather/scale markings on their necks. They seem to have almost eerie properties of camouflage.

Steller's Jays are gorgeous. They're the bluest birds I've ever seen. I still can't get a decent picture of one, though.

I increased the resolution of my digital camera pictures, but things still look distressingly grainy in some of my shots. Then I realized that I've got the compression on 'normal' rather than 'fine.' I haven't tried any pictures with the new settings yet; hope they come out better. I can still fit about 90 shots on my 64M card at the highest possible resolution and least compression. That ought to be enough.
