I CAN'T ANSWER THIS STUFF. I don't have a single favorite anything. Most of the books I return to repeatedly are the literary equivalent of comfort food. Some of the more worn ones on my favorites shelf are:
- Diane Duane's Deep Wizardry. I read this when I was a young teenager, during my summer vacation, and it still evokes summer nights swimming and mystery and magic. And a bit of angst, for good measure. I think this is by far the best book in Duane's Young Wizards series.
- Prozac Highway by Persimmon Blackbridge. Perfectly-evoked story of being depressed during the long, hot summer of 1995, and seeking friendship and escape online. Not that I'd know anything about that.
- Most of Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan books. I like Cordelia a little better as a protagonist than Miles, but it's gratifying to see him actually mature over the course of the series. (Attention audiobook people: Shards of Honor and Barrayar, the two Cordelia books, are now out. GET THEM.)
