In an attempt to eat more healthy snacks, I am going to try every variety of apple I can get my hands on, and see how they compare to the 'tasting notes' on their heavily branded websites. "Hints of cinnamon and subtle notes of caramel"? We'll see.

I am undecided on whether I have to actually eat a Red Delicious as part of this project. I have yet to find any description of Red Delicious apples having a flavor, which seems about right. Personally, I prefer tart apples, and could probably subsist on Granny Smiths, but they're so acidic they make my teeth hurt if I eat them too often.

So far, I have discovered that Pink Lady ("sweet-tart with crisp bite and effervescent finish") is actually pretty good; it's very crisp and juicy, quite sweet, but with enough tartness to keep it interesting. Too many apples are just sweet or bland. "Effervescent" may be overstating it, but it's definitely one for the 'would eat again' list. Pink Lady is a specifically branded variety of Cripps Pink, and claims to be higher quality; I have my doubts about that, but the ones at Ralphs had the Pink Lady sticker, so that's what I got. Should I have included a picture? I don't have a picture. I ate it already. If I'm going to become an apple blog, I should probably work on my quality control. (Don't worry, I'm not going to become an apple blog.)

Up next: Jazz. "Classic low acid sweet-tart apple taste with subtle hints of pear." And time, and something that was just apple.
