Tomatoes

People in San Diego seem to think I'm weird for eating tomatoes. Is eating tomatoes a Wisconsin thing? Is not eating tomatoes a California thing? (By 'eating tomatoes,' I mean beginning with a whole tomato and taking bites out of it, perhaps with occasional sprinkles of salt. I don't mean slicing it and adding it to a sandwich.)

I actually have a friend who does that, too, so it can't be a Wisconsin thing. But she's started eating cherry tomatoes because other Seattlites think she's weird when she eats the beefsteak ones. :)

I hate chunks of tomatoes. Ewwwwwww. I pick them all out of my spaghetti sauce.

Eating cherry tomatoes seems to be very popular among Texans. I have seen people eat whole tomatoes (regular sized), but not as much as the cherry tomatoes. For some reason, members of my family like to slice them and eat them. I think it's psychological..the need for it to be sliced before you eat it.
That was the long way of saying I think you're normal :)

Born and raised in California, and being a tomato eater all my life, I don't see what's so odd about it. They're yummier than most other fruits, to me. Mmmmmmmm. My mom does, too.

But I think the best part about tomatos is the smell of the stems.

I usually cut them up because I make a gigantic mess when I eat a whole tomato, but when I was little and didn't care about making a mess I ate them just like apples. Tomatoes are wonderful things.

Well, I'm a 6th-generation Californian and I've never known anyone to eat whole tomatoes like that, though I've heard of it. I've also heard of people eating whole Vidalia onions like apples. I tried to do that once. It was not successful. ;)

I don't like raw tomatoes, so I wouldn't eat one straight off the vine. Perhaps I can be excused: Around where I grew up, they have genetically engineered tomatoes to survive falling off a truck at 70 mph. This, needless to say, does not make for good eatin' tomaters. ยจ
