These last two days have been pretty depressing. There's little to add to what's been said here already, and I've done most of the venting I can bear in comments already. jathomas's take on events is pretty good reading (and to think I nearly unfriended him when he hadn't posted in eight months).
So what can I offer you in this time of turmoil? Macro photos of gazania. I know, I've done it before, but I love these flowers, and there are a lot of them outside the library, and it might lower your blood pressure to look at pretty things. I'm splitting them across two posts because I used a computer on dialup last week in Wisconsin and it nearly killed me. I know you don't all have broadband.
I really love gazania. They have these paintbrush-perfect stripes and detailed little blocks of color at the base of the petals. They're ubiquitous in San Diego as groundcover, and I don't think they get a lot of respect in the plant world. I put my camera in macro mode and snapped these on my way to lunch. Tell me these flowers aren't extraordinary.
