Apple review: Pink Lady
Apr. 18th, 2018 03:25 pmPink Lady was the first new apple I tried this year, but I didn't review it properly because I wasn't planning to actually review apples. At this point I'm pretty much out of new varieties, so I thought it would be interesting to revisit Pink Lady now that I've got some things to compare it to.

Verdict: I still like it! It's a good mix of sweetness and tartness, lively without being overpowering or too acidic. It might be more tart than some people like, but I'm into that kind of thing, and it's nowhere near as intense as Granny Smith. The texture is good, crisp but not overly dense. It's moderately juicy, but the flavor doesn't come across as watery or diluted (one of my least favorite apple characteristics). It may be somewhat lacking in subtlety (I don't detect faint notes of anything unusual), but it's not boring. Some other apples have surprised me -- I used to be quick to dismiss "sweet" apples, but some are actually pretty interesting. But Pink Lady is probably my ideal apple.
Buy again? Yes, and it seems to be everywhere, so there won't be any problem getting more.
So far, I think my top three are Pink Lady, Aurora, and Lady Alice. But surely the future will hold apples I haven't even imagined... even if I have to wait until fall to get them.
